Drop

Textile and screenprint design - How can I represent the beautiful process behind the jeweller's craft through print design?

I was approached by a Drop Casting Jeweler to design some jewellery bags.

Drop Casting is a process in which hot Silver or Gold is dropped into spinning water, which then sets the material, creating a unique result each time. I was able to have a go at Drop Casting myself which gave me a great understanding of the process behind it and ultimatley inspired my process.

I wanted to create a design that was both representative of this process and the Jeweler.

My designs developed from originally marbling, which mirrored the jeweller's own drop-casting process, to then screen printing.

These final designs were then screen printed in Turquoise, as this is the stone the Jeweller uses the most. They were then finally stitched with a golden thread to relate back to the very loved Turquoise stone.

Each bag is unique and a one-off, just like the Drop Casts.
